If you didn't know any better you might think that Smackdown vs. Raw completely dominates the wrestling scene on game consoles. But Midway is here to give fans a choice with TNA Impact! The game is based off the popular Spike TV show and includes a whole lot of faces that avid wrestling fans might recognize from their past with a certain other league. Impact has been three years in the making, so fans have been waiting a long time to pick up the best version possible. Insider is here to help you make that decision. The achievement list in TNA is filled with a bunch of small gimme's that can easily be attained just by playing story mode. There are a few secret achievements that might increase overall play time slightly, but this isn't a major reason to play the game.


PS2 Features The PS2 disc most of the features that make the 360 and PS3 games fun. There's no create-a-character mode, so the main story line is played out using a guy who looks like the Suicide character that is introduced at the beginning of the game.

This loading screen stays up for about 17 minutes, which is a relatively long time to wait. Usually this wait is overlooked because it improves loading times and gamers will see slightly fewer loading screens on PS3. This issue has popped up in the features section, but since it directly affects the flow of gameplay it belongs in the presentation section this time around.


The Nintendo 64 version of this title is considered by many to be the greatest game of all time in its genre. Some fans may not know that WWF No Mercy was also intended to be released for Game Boy Color. Unfortunately, its development history was troubled. It switched from AKI, the N64 team, to Natsume who worked on WWF WrestleMania 2000. After missing its holiday 2000 deadline with nothing revealed to the public, No Mercy had its place on the cancelled wrestling games list.


Out of all the cancelled wrestling games on this list, WWE Brawl was easily the closest that came to release. From 2009 to 2012, THQ continued to embark on their big plan to expand the WWE videogame franchise. They were already in the process of combating their SmackDown vs Raw series with the arcade-style WWE All-Stars. This was intended to be a platform fighter featuring exciting multiplayer, exaggerated wrestling personas, destructible environments and even an original story. It could be seen as WWE Titans: Parts Unknown reborn.


A hub would have been present where players could connect with and challenge each other. Trading items, from wrestlers to clothing, would also have been an option. Of course, microtransactions were to be present to partner with a points system where superstars and abilities could be bought. In 2011, THQ added yet another title to their growing list of cancelled wrestling games as they re-evaluated their plans. To this day, this is a genre that struggles when it comes to online gameplay.


Making their second appearance is Next Level Games. After developing two Mario Strikers titles, they set their sights on making a volleyball and wrestling hybrid. Clearly, there were ambitions from WWE Titans: Part Unknown that they still wanted to see come to fruition. This game was worked on for the Wii during 2006 and 2007, but went completely unannounced before leaking in 2014. Luckily, concept art and test footage has been found. They show wrestling attires for Mario and a variety of planned stages. The latter would have each had their own environmental gimmicks.

(official typeset "TNA iMPACT!") is the first video game released by the professional wrestling promotion, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). The game was developed by Midway Studios in Los Angeles and published by Midway Games.


After periods of negotiation with Electronic Arts and Rockstar Games, TNA signed a multi-year agreement with Midway Games on November 7, 2005. Midway announced their intentions to release Impact!, the first game in TNA's history, for each of the seventh generation consoles on March 2, 2006.


TNA wrestlers have been involved with the games production. The self described "hardcore gamers" Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles have both taken part in meetings with Midway staff to brainstorm game-play ideas, and Joe, Styles, Christopher Daniels, Senshi, Sonjay Dutt, and Jeff Jarrett were all a part of the motion capture sessions. During the October 23, 2006 tapings of the weekly TNA Impact! program, members of the TNA roster were "scanned" for the game and audio samples of the Impact! Zone crowd were recorded.


The story mode's main character is a wrestler named Suicide. During every iMPACT episode after the August 14, 2008 version of iMPACT!, the words "whoissuicide.com" flashed on the screen for less than a second. On the website, it shows that Suicide is being taken from the game to real life television.


IGN gave varied reviews for all platforms, 6.7 for the Xbox 360, 6.4 for the PS3, and 5.3 for the PS2. IGN said that the graphics were great, though the lack of Create-a-Wrestler, Championships, moves, and "brain-dead" tag team AI were not favorable. GameSpot was more favorable, saying that the first TNA video game was off to a good start, and praised the sound effects, but panned the voice acting. Tech-Gaming gave TNA a 'B' grade, stating they liked the zippy frame rate and accessible controls, but bemoaned the similarity of each wrestler's move list.


Midway Games originally announced a sequel to the game. In July 2009, Time Warner]] (through its subsidiary Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) purchased the majority of Midway, the TNA license was not included with the purchase. In a September 2009 interview, TNA president Dixie Carter announced that TNA was looking for a new video game partner. On November 11, 2009, SouthPeak Games confirmed it acquired Midway Games TNA video game license in its quarterly report. The first game published by the company was TNA Impact!: Cross the Line for PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS. It was released on June 25, 2010.


TNA Impact! is a professional wrestling game developed and published by Midway Games in September 2008. Based on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), the game proved successful, selling 1.5 million units. Later in 2008, Midway Games announced a sequel to the game with an intended release in 2009, but the game was cancelled following Midway Games' bankruptcy.


TNA's relationship with Midway Games began on 7th November, 2005, when the two companies forged a multi-year deal to produce professional wrestling games.[1] With the assistance of various TNA wrestlers during brainstorming and motion capturing sessions,[2] Midway Games' first TNA game, TNA Impact!, would be released in September 2008.[3] Selling around 1.5 million units across the PlayStation 2 and 3, Wii and Xbox,[4] the game received generally mixed reception by critics.[5]


In December 2008, a Midway representative confirmed to GameSpot that the company was beginning work on a sequel, although no features nor platforms the game was intended to be released on were discussed. Nevertheless, it was confirmed that Midway intended to release it sometime in 2009.[6] In an interview with ESPN, wrestler Samoa Joe discussed development of TNA Impact! 2, having previously been influential in the original game's development. He claimed that motion-capturing and brainstorming sessions had been conducted, as well as a mock-up of the game to showcase its progress. He stated many features wrestling fans wanted for the game had been included, enhancing gameplay beyond the original which ultimately ended up losing three months of development because of Midway's financial situation.[7]


Despite TNA Impact!'s success, Midway was in poor financial shape in 2008, which likely forced the company to hasten the game's development for an early release.[8] Ultimately, even though TNA Impact! sold well, it was not enough for Midway to financially sustain itself, as in February 2009, it filed for bankruptcy protection as it could not pay back accelerated debt obligations. These obligations arose from Sumner Redstone selling a majority stake in the company in December 2008.[9] According to the bankruptcy filing, Midway had accumulated debts of $281 million by 30th September, 2008.[10]


On 21st May, 2009, Warner Bros. placed a $33 million bid to purchase the assets of Midway Games. Ultimately, this did not include the rights to produce and publish TNA games, leaving TNA Impact! 2's future uncertain.[11] While SouthPeak Games announced it acquired the licence on 11th November, 2009,[12] the only title it would release was TNA Impact!: Cross the Line for the Nintendo DS and PSP in June 2010, which was essentially a port of TNA Impact!.[13] Thus, TNA Impact! 2 was quietly cancelled. 2ff7e9595c
